The Process

From raw lumber to finished art

1. Select the Wood

Every piece begins with the right foundation. We hand-pick premium hardwoods — Baltic birch, American black walnut, and cherry — evaluating each board for grain direction, color consistency, and tonal character. Only the finest planks make it to the workbench, where they are sanded to a glass-smooth 320-grit finish, ready to receive the artist’s hand.

2. Sketch the Vision

No two pieces begin the same way. Some designs emerge from reference photography, others from conversations with the collector. Whatever the origin, the concept is drafted freehand in pencil directly onto the prepared wood surface. Proportions are checked, details are adjusted, and the composition is refined until both artist and client sign off — then the burning begins.

3. Burn the Lines

Using a professional-grade Colwood burning system with interchangeable solid-core and detail tips, each line is drawn with heat — not ink. Temperature, pressure, and tip speed are adjusted continuously to control line weight, depth, and shading. Layers are built from light outlines to deep, sculpted shadows. A single medium-sized piece can take 40-80 hours of concentrated burning.

4. Seal and Finish

The burn is complete, but the work is not. Loose carbon dust is gently brushed away. A thin coat of satin polymerizing oil is hand-rubbed into the surface, locking in the burn and bringing the wood grain to life. After 24 hours of cure time, the piece is photographed, signed, and crated. It ships ready to hang — a permanent witness to patience, skill, and the natural beauty of wood.
