Pyrography — from the Greek pyr (fire) and graphos (writing) — is the art of decorating wood with controlled burn marks.

Unlike painting, where pigments are layered on a surface, pyrography is subtractive: the artist removes material by burning, creating permanent marks that follow the natural grain of the wood.

Each piece of wood is unique — with its own grain pattern, density, and character. The artisan must read the wood, adapting their technique to its natural flow.

The result is a collaboration between artist and nature.
